SOFIA Workshop 2011

November 7 and 8, 2011
NASA Ames Research Center, Building 3
Moffett Field, California

BACKGROUND AND GOALS:

Starting with the first science flights in December 2010, SOFIA would have flown about 30 science flights by November 2011. On the majority of these flights, data were obtained for US Basic Science and German Demonstration Time Guest Investigator (GI) programs. The instruments used for the GI programs during this period were FORCAST and GREAT.

The November 2011 SOFIA Workshop will provide a participatory forum where members of the astronomy community can meet and interact with the SOFIA Science Center staff and learn about the details of SOFIA observations and data. The aim is to help astronomers write excellent proposals for SOFIA observing time, and to share information on data analysis. Experienced ground-based/airborne infra-red observers will get insight into the particular characteristics of SOFIA. Those new to the field will get sufficient introduction to the observatory to get started.
